Planning for Pets with Pet Trusts
As a pet owner you have an incredible bond with your pet and you want to make sure that your pet will be take care of if something were to happen to you.
There are many reasons to plan for your pet (dog, cat, horse, etc). First, despite the relatively short life expectancy of a pet, your pet may live outlive you. Proper planning can provide a care plan for not only your death, but also your incapacity. You can also provide for a temporary caregiver in the event something unforeseen happens to you. Through proper planning, you can reduce the anxiety that is possible when a pet owner thinks that their beloved pet may live on without them. Also, there is no guarantee that money left to others for care and treatment of your pet will be spent accordingly.
The solution to many of these concerns is to utilize a Pet Trust created by us at Witzke Berry PLLC. A Pet Trust is a legally binding document that ensures that your pets will be cared for as you yourself cared for them.
We have extensive experience preparing Pet Trusts for clients and have been featured in an article by the Detroit Free Press for their work creating Pet Trusts. We work with pet owners to help ensure that their pets will be cared for in the proper manner in the event that the pet owner cannot care for them.
